Hi! My name is Anna Michelle Barrette and I am 35-years-old. Professionally, I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. You might also say I am someone who strives to foster change in people's lives and relationships. In 2010, I received my BA in Psychology from California State University Channel Islands. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with an MA in Psychology from California Southern University in 2014. This, alongside years of working with children, teens, adults, and couples are a contribution to what makes me the therapist I am today. This line of work is authentic to who I have always been. I have always felt a calling to listen. To make tangible change. To heal from within. A desire to ensure someone leaves me feeling supported and encouraged. Creating a treatment plan collaboratively to make sure you are working toward goals we set. I believe the makings of a good therapist go beyond just comprehending and applying what we have been taught. There is an inherent nature from deep within to be effective in this field. That as well as continuously learning and educating yourself in more recent research in order to deliver the most reliable and effective therapy treatment available.
As a therapist, I believe it is vital to always continue working and evolving as a human. I, too, have sought out therapy for pre-marital counseling, for trauma-based work during a pregnancy, and sometimes just as a means of working toward a better me when nothing is necessarily going "wrong." I share this to humanize this experience. It is not easy baring your truest self to a complete stranger. I promise you that my goal is to make sure you genuinely feel safe with me to be who you are underneath all the coping mechanisms and walls you may or may not even realize you have. I am not one to sit and only listen. There will be actual therapeutic work taking place throughout our sessions and time together. As a mother of two, I know what it can feel like to try and find someone to support my loved ones in any area concerning their health and well-being. I mention this because I am not desensitized. I am present and ready to give you the highest level of focus and do the best work we can together to overcome whatever comes into our space.
